2024 state of developer experience report.

Software development teams are dealing with growing complexity and productivity expectations. These pressures can affect developer experience, which is increasingly important to retaining talent and creating more efficient teams—or at least, that’s what we were willing to bet.

In February 2024, Atlassian worked with Wakefield Research and the founders and researchers of DX, an engineering intelligence platform, to learn more about the state and effect of developer experience at global organizations. We surveyed 2,100+ developers and managers across a range of industries to get a fresh look at the points of friction getting in the way of their satisfaction and productivity—and what they're planning to do about it. While the results showed that developer experience is important to both developers and leaders, there isn’t always alignment on what needs to be improved.

Download our report to learn where the mismatches between developers and leaders lie and how your organization can measure and improve the developer role in a way that actually addresses developer concerns.

In this report, you’ll learn about:

How to improve the developer experience at your organization in a meaningful way

Mismatches between leader attitudes and what developers actually experience

The future of developer experience, including the impact of AI and new tooling
